Leprechaun Traps

Leprechaun Traps...woooah!  The excitement...the thrill...and the mess!  Each month I have my students work on a 'Monthly Family Project' and for March they had to create a leprechaun trap.  

Everyone came up with really good ideas and I was in 'ah' when they took turns explaining how they were going to use their traps to catch him.

Every day we would check to see if anyone had caught the leprechaun, yet instead he left us some tiny notes and goodies.  The first day he left us a note and a lucky pebble taped to a super tiny picture for us to color.

The second day he left us another note with a bottle that contained 'Magic Powder' and the directions to how to make it.  

Here is a picture of what we used to make the magic powder, incase anyone wants to try it in their class next year.  Again, we have 2 students who are allergic to nuts so we used white chocolate pudding, mint chocolate flavor and mixed it with milk.  My kids liked it so much that they kept asking for more.  It's always interesting to hear the conversations they have between each other and what will happen if they ate the magic powder.

The third day we made 'Wanted Posters' and wrote about the leprechaun to make sure that everyone in our school knew about him.  

The leprechaun brought us the ingredients to make leprechaun slime.  The ingredients were very simple: elmer's glue, green food coloring, borax, and warm water.  We mixed it all together and made leprechaun slime.  You can only imagine how messy it got...and my hands were pretty covered in slime...so no pictures for that activity.

The fourth day was our last day to try to catch him.  I had a student who came to school telling me that she wrote a note to see if he would bring us more magic powder so that they could make it at home.  How adorable...she put it in her trap and we waited!  We checked and he left us his last and final note saying that he left us his gold (fake gold) and to try again next year!

Unfortunately he was just took quick for us, lol.  Maybe next year we will catch the leprechaun and get his gold!;)

Five for Friday

I made my first every birthday basket for a friend!!!  I was trying to go with a theme and I know she enjoys baking and cooking so I had so much fun looking for things that she may like in her basket.:)

We have a drying rack to place our artwork!!!  OMG, it is a true life saver when it comes to space and we are truly blessed to have been able to get it from Donors Choose. Many thanks to everyone who made a donation!

My friend Kate has been busy with making such cute crafts and posting them to her TpT store.  Look at how adorable these leprechauns turned out!  My friend made these with her class and I just had to take a picture of her bulletin board!  

I was walking to my 'Yearbook Committee Meeting' and saw this cool minion door.  I just had to take a picture!  I need to start walking around my school more often and check out the amazing work that everyone does at our school with door decorations and bulletin boards!  

I made these last year with my kiddos and wanted to share this cute craft that my friend made.  I plan to do this again with my students this year!

I laughed when I saw this...its so true...and I think that I'm starting to really like minions, thanks to one of my students in my class this year, heehee.:)

Dr. Seuss Fun

We had so much fun learning about the author Dr. Seuss and reading all his books for a week!  I have two students with severe allergies to eggs so we couldn't eat real green eggs and ham this year. Had to change it up and my friend Heather found this cute idea on Pinterest.  

It was pretty fun helping her make them and my kiddos really liked eating these green eggs and ham treats!  So simple, all it took was white candy melts, green M&M's, and pretzel sticks.

They liked them soooo much they wanted to eat more of them, I told them if they asked Zero the Hero who was coming the following week...just maybe he could bring us some again, lol...and he did.;)

I found these super cute Dr. Seuss hats at Michaels on sale and had to get them for our class.  I normally have them paint their hats and them put them on sentence strips but I just couldn't pass on these hats!  To end the week we had green ice cream floats with sprinkles and watched Green Eggs and Ham!

For one of our writing lessons, I read the book, Oh the Places You'll Go and we talked about where we would like to go if we were on a hot air balloon.  I took a picture of them while they wrote in their writing journals and then rewrote our sentence on a writing paper.  We then made the hot air balloons out of construction paper and assembled them.  They turned out pretty cute!

Every day I read a different Dr. Seuss book and we did an activity to go along with the story.  Here is a picture of our Thing 1 and Thing 2 craft, the Cat and the Hat, and our writing activity!  

The writing paper came from Mrs. Jump's Dr. Seuss Unit.  We had so much fun, the kids continued to read Dr. Seuss books at the library center.  Fun, fun!:)

Sorry We Missed You Door Poster Freebie

I feel like I haven't blogged for awhile and wanted to come back with a freebie....just for not posting frequently.  I made a 'Sorry We Missed You' door poster for my classroom. I have it right beside my classroom door and mark on it whenever we leave the room.

Five For Friday 'Nevada Reading Week'

It's been awhile since I have done the Five for Friday with Doodle Bugs Teaching.

Have you ever heard of Apex Fun Run Fundraiser?  This was my first time ever hearing about it...and I must say that it was a school fundraiser that I really enjoyed it a lot.  Our class was Mrs. Solis's Minions!  The students were able to run inside the school due to the weather being so windy and possible rain.  You should have seen some them run so fast in the halls, lol.

Have you ever ordered something online and hoped that it would arrive on time?  Well, that's what I did 2 weeks before Nevada Reading Week.  Here I was sooo excited to get my shirt and behold...they shipped the wrong size (ahhhh).  Can you see the size difference?  My husband teased me that I could pull it off and wear it as a dress with a belt but that was not what I wanted at all.  I finally received the right size today in the mail...yippy, I can now wear it next year, lol.;)   

  

Here are some pictures of us dressing up as our favorite book characters.  I made the tutu's with the help of my friend Holly and they were so much fun to make! I think our outfits came out looking awesome!

During Nevada Reading Week, I invited our students' families to be one of our Mystery Readers!  The students couldn't wait for me to read the mystery reader clues, and I was surprised at how well they guessed who the mystery readers were.  If you look closely...the students are all dressed in their pajamas for Pajama Day in school!

One of the activities that they really enjoyed doing during our Nevada Reading Week was 'Flashlight Reading.'  We turned off the lights in our room, found a reading buddy, a comfy place to sit, and used a flashlight to read.

Last but not least...we had crazy hair day in kindergarten for Nevada Reading Week.  I couldn't decide what to do with my hair, so I figured why not wear a wig!!  OMG, when I opened up my classroom door to greet my students...you should have seen their faces.  They really thought that I had dyed my hair purple and blue.  It was so funny! 

It was my first time ever wearing a wig at work and I had so much fun, lol.
