My Classroom Rules and a Giveaway

Ever since I posted my classroom rules in our class website, I've been asked about how they came to be.  I made these in 2010 when I started teaching kindergarten.  At that point, I didn't exactly know what I was getting myself into...I was eager to begin a new journey in kinder, yet was warned by many of my friends that it was going to be tough..especially the beginning of the year.
Well they weren't kidding!  It was my toughest year of all, I'm surprised that I survived from all the challenges I was faced that year.

That's when I realized that I had to change a few things...one thing that I changed very quickly was my classroom rules.  I wanted to come up with something simple where my students would understand what rules were and why we needed them in the classroom.
I chose to have 6 rules and of course they had to be simple...cause that's what I like...simple, simple, simple and to the point!

When I first introduced it, I crossed my fingers in hopes that it would work...and I don't know why but after a few days of reviewing the rules, I ended up singing the rules to my kiddos and they liked it!

I realized that in kindergarten, in order for you to catch their attention I had to sing pretty much anything that I wanted them to do...from sitting on the carpet, to getting in line, center rotation...you name it, I sang it.  Whether my songs made sense or not...they enjoyed singing them, lol.

Well, till this day I still use the same classroom rules, they work for me...and all my students can sing the rules without my help!  It's an amazing feeling, I tell ya!

Some of you may be wondering what the song is...I can't explain, it just came to me and it stuck.  If you ever step into my classroom and ask about our classroom rules...be ready for the students and the teacher to sing them away!;)
When I started learning how to use Pinterest 2 years ago, I searched kindergarten classroom rules...and to my surprise I found a picture of mine.  Seriously, no lie...I never thought that someone would like them enough to pin them on their board.

So to end this post, I will doing another giveaway...I've been wanting to update my classroom rules posters...I wanted it to be more colorful.  So here they are in English and Spanish!!  Being part of a Title I school, I've always translated my files to Spanish.

So, as part of the giveaway I will be giving away these rules, your choice of either English or Spanish to the first '3' who become a follower of my blog, my TPT store, and leave a comment sharing how you came about with your classroom rules.  Don't forget to also include your email and if you would like them in 'English or 'Spanish.':)

  1. How exciting for you to have a TpT store. I have followed your class website for a while. Thank you for all these years of tracing calendars. I have the children "think" they come up with class rules. I am guiding them to what I want them to come up with. Yours are so perfect for kindergarten.
I am now following your blog and store. I hope I win a copy of yours.

    1. Hi Terry! Thank you, I'm very excited about my new adventuring with having a TPT store. I've done that too, with having them think that we came up with the rules as a class. I like that we think alike.;)

  5. Hi! I'm an elementary Spanish teacher in New Jersey. I was just browsing the internet looking for new, fun, and interesting ways to display classroom rules. It would be so great if I was one of the lucky three to receive your giveaway. I would love to have the rules written in Spanish. This is the first year I have a classroom and these rules would go perfectly!
